The local region: Schwarzbubenland

Dornach lies in the region called Schwarzbubenland, consisting of the political districts, Dorneck and Thierstein. It belongs to the canton (or state) of Solothurn and is a close neighbor to Basel. It is also known as, "the pearl of Northwestern Switzerland," because of it's enchanting landscape of hills, ravines and valleys.  The 23 towns hold numerous museums, galleries and theaters. The area of Schwarzbubenland is also known for its castles, ruins and monasteries, which are still in use or partly operated. If you would like to round off your stay at the Goetheanum with an excursion to the surrounding area, please contact the information desk (Forum Schwarzbubenland) in the Neues Theater am Bahnhof (New Theater at the train station), opposite to the train station Dornach-Arlesheim, or inquire at the Dornach train station where they mostly speak English:
