Facts and Figures of the Anthroposophical Movement and Anthroposophical Society

Worldwide, there are 44,000 members in the General Anthroposophical Society in 94 countries.

The number of people interested in anthroposophy and anthroposophical services is approx. 10-20 times larger.

In December, 2010, the initiative ELIANT (www.eliant.eu) was able to collect, to maintain the freedom of anthroposophical services at EU level a million signatures.

In the Switzerland there are 36 Rudolf Steiner schools and 93 preschool facilities attended by 7100 students. There are over 1000 schools and 1300 kindergarden and 60 training institutions in 60 countries worldwide. (www.steinerschule.ch/medien-bildungsangebot/factsheet).

There are 238 Demeter farms, on the increace in the Switzerland: in 2009 there were 14 Demeter companies. In 2010, there were 94 Demeter dealers/processors, and, for example, 13 beekeepers in 2009 and 5 more in 2010.

There are 200 anthroposophic based medical or dental clinics and 3 hospitals, and 2 departments in general hospitals within Switzerland. Overall, there is a slight growth, especially in primary care, by about 10% per year, in recent years.

Weleda and Wala are the two pharmaceutical and cosmetic specialists. The sales of the Weleda Group grew in 2009, by 13%, reaching 400 Million CHF.

After the establishment of the GLS Gemeinschaftsbank Bochum for ethical banking and low-interest loans in the 70s, offshoots in other countries, such as Austria, England and Switzerland were added. Like the organic agriculture also the anthroposophic banks, have developed sustainable standards such as ethical Banking, which was previously, generally unknown. Now the banks are on 3 continents.
