Invitation to a worldwide members’ conversation
Because the 2021 Annual General Meeting had to be reduced and broadcast digitally due to the pandemic, members will have the opportunity for a global conversation on 11 September 2021.
The past two AGMs of the General Anthroposophical Society were unusual because of Covid-19 regulations. In 2020 the Annual Conference and the AGM were postponed to 31 October and condensed into just one day. In 2021 the AGM could take place at the usual time but only online and reduced to only a few hours on 27 March. Even though, in 2021, more than 2000 members joined the livestream or informed themselves afterwards by accessing the videos online, there was no possibility for members to enter into a conversation with the Goetheanum Leadership, that is, with the Executive Council and the Section Leaders, other than emailing their questions.
New: Members’ Day as a worldwide conversation
In the hope that travelling restrictions will have been eased, at least within Europe and that there will be fewer other restrictions by September, the Executive Council announced in its invitation to the AGM on 27 March 2021 that an extraordinary members’ meeting was to follow on 11 September 2021, asking members to save the date. Mandatory decisions of the AGM would have had to be confirmed in a live meeting if the members joining the livestream had not accepted an online ballot. But a point of order regarding this was raised during the meeting and the members voted in favour of decisions being made online. The decisions of 2021 have therefore been taken in accordance with regulations if under extraordinary conditions.
Against this background, the Executive Council has now decided that there is no need to hold the extraordinary general meeting it had formally asked for. Instead, it envisages a one-day an in-depth worldwide conversation, where as many members as possible are present in person and others join virtually from different language areas. The pandemic seems to have suddenly brought us closer to the members in 35 anthroposophical societies around the world.
We are pleased to invite all members to attend this members’ day at the Goetheanum either in person or virtually.
Anthroposophical Society World Conversation A Members’ Day in addition to the 2021 AGM to be held at the Goetheanum in Dornach on 11 September 2021, from 9:00 to 21:30 CET, and virtually in the corresponding time zones and different language areas.
Following an artistic introduction and short contributions in the first half of the morning, we will divide into work and practice groups both at the Goetheanum and in the virtual space, guided by the motto ‘Let us enliven all our thinking, feeling and doing! How can we contribute with anthroposophy to the health of our planet and the dignity of human beings?’
After a midday break, we will try to convey some of the essence of the group work in a plenary session and via livestream. A second round of work groups will focus on topical questions that live within the Anthroposophical Society or topics that may still be submitted, such as:
- Being in favour of the Anthroposophical Society – a members’ project!
- Forthcoming events: the centenary of thefire at the Goetheanum and the Christmas Conference of 1923/1924, and that of the day of Rudolf Steiner’s death in 2025.
- Impulses for bringing new life to the local branches and other questions concerning the branches.
- Project on reconsidering the Weleda ownership structure.
- Possibilities, goals and inclusion of the World Goetheanum Association
… depending on the members taking part, either in language groups or with simultaneous interpretation.
In the evening, the Goetheanum Stage Ensemble will perform its latest eurythmy programme (Klangzeiten) to members and guests (those who can be at the Goetheanum the night before, on 10 September 2021, will be able to attend an introduction to the Ensemble’s work with demonstrations and extracts from the programme.)
The agenda for this World Conversation for Members will be updated regularly and published both on www.goetheanum.org and in Anthroposophy Worldwide 9/2021. Information on any restrictions that may still apply as a result of the pandemic regulations can also be found there.
What is new on campus?
We would be pleased to see you in person and to have a real encounter at the Goetheanum. You will be able to visit the model of the First Goetheanum, made on a scale of 1 to 20, in its new exhibition space within the Schreinerei building, experience the sculpture of the Representative of Humanity in its new home and see everything else that is new on campus.
Discussions and planning for the virtual work groups in the different language areas will take place over the summer in dialogue with the societies in the different countries. The outcome of this will also be communicated on the website and in Anthroposophy Worldwide 9/2021.
