Study Programs

The Goetheanum offers a full-year study program, "Foundations of Anthroposophy," in English! (The full-time study overseen by the General Anthroposophic Section, is also offered in Spanish/Portuguese and German.) Students from around the world, of various backgrounds and ages, come for an academic year of Anthroposophic studies, including artistic classes.

There are 11 sections at the Goetheanum that offer conferences throughout the year, often translated or held in multiple languages. See the individual websites for current programs.

The following schools and sections offer occupational Anthroposophical courses, diploma programs and research options in Dornach: eurythmy (performing arts section), painting (visual art section), educationbiodynamic agriculturemedicinemathmatics/astronomy and natural science. The youth section located on the Goetheanum hill, houses a multitude of activities and international conferences in English, German and Spanish. The literary arts and humanities section and the social science section can be contacted for questions about involvement, study or research.

"Faust" at the Goetheanum: Three performances in 2017

After the summer 2016 performances, there will be three full performances of Goethe's Faust I & II (uncut) at the Goetheanum in 2017, newly produced and directed by Christian Peter.

The production, newly directed by Christian Peter, with Margrethe Solstad and Andrea Pfaehler, is musically lively, rich in variety of acting, song, dance and eurythmy, with lavish costumes, clean set-construction, and captivating choreographed set design and lighting. Until now, 1,600 have attended the new performances.

There were three showings in summer: July 19-23rd, 25-28th, and August 1-5th, 2016. The middle performance, shown at the youth summer festival, was titled, "Am I Faust?" Students up to age 35 could attend for 150 CHF. 

In Fall, Faust I will be performed in Germany from the 24th-25th of September, 2016, at the Witten/Herdecke university. There will be a showing on the 12th of November 2016, in Mannheim.

The Goetheanum-Stage Group will also perform three complete shows in 2017 (purchase tickets by December 15th, 2016):

  • July 17-19th, 2017,
  • Jul 21-24th, 2017 and
  • Jul 28-30th 2017

Tickets may be purchased for a single showing of Faust I or Faust II.

The Goetheanum is a center of a worldwide network of spiritually engaged people. It is the seat of the School of Spiritual Science  and the General Anthroposophical Society, which serves as a place of exchange for those with spiritual questions, and a place for trainings in scientific and artistic fields. 

Events range from lectures on special themes, to large, international conferences, to performances by  ensembles and guest performances in Eurythmy, theater, puppetry and music. 

Situated in the Jura landscape, 10 Kilometers South of Basel, the Goetheanum sits grand on the Dornach hill, with its expressive architecture and picturesque garden park, café, bookstore and gift shop.
