Cultural activities in the area

The Goetheanum in Dornach is 15 km away from the cultural city of Basel that offers a wide range of cultural activities and covers very diverse interests. There are numerous museums and art galleries, and, over the last two decades, renowned architects such as Herzog & De Meuron, Mario Botta and Zaha Hadid have left their mark on the city with pioneering building designs.

Basel – situated in the Northwest corner of Switzerland where three countries come together – is host to the biggest and most important trade-fairs in Switzerland and one of the most prestigious trade fair centres in Europe. Exhibitions such as Art Basel and BASELWORLD – the international watch and jewellery fair – attract visitors from around the world.

Theater Basel is internationally acclaimed for its drama, dance and opera productions. The theatre features two buildings and three stages. In 2010, Theater Basel received the “Opera House of the Year” award.

A major part of Basel’s musical life takes place in the Stadtcasino Basel with regular concerts of international orchestras and soloists. The Stadtcasino is the home of Basel’s Symphony Orchestra and of the young chamber orchestra sinfonietta Basel.
